About Leanne

A Privilege

It is a genuine privilege to work alongside people as they navigate some of life’s most difficult experiences.

After more than 20 years in psychology, I continue to be inspired by the courage people bring to therapy and by the possibility for change that emerges within a genuinely engaged therapeutic relationship.

For me, therapy is more than helping people feel better. It is about creating the space to understand ourselves more deeply, heal old emotional wounds and move towards a more authentic and connected way of living.

Leanne Butler Clinical Psychologist Hawthorn

Healing isn't about getting rid of parts of yourself. It's about understanding them with compassion.

Understanding & Change

Many of the struggles we experience make sense when understood in the context of our lives.

Rather than asking what is wrong, I’m interested in what has happened, how your experiences have shaped you, and what your emotions may be communicating.

Change begins with understanding ourselves with curiosity, compassion and honesty.

My Philosophy

My work is grounded in a humanistic, experiential and relational approach to psychotherapy.

Every person brings a different story, different values and different hopes for therapy. Rather than asking you to fit a particular model, I draw from evidence-based approaches while remaining responsive to you and what emerges in our work together.

I believe my most important role is to be fully present, understand your emotional world and help create the conditions for change.

Working Together

I’m a warm, engaged and interactive therapist. I’ll listen deeply, but I won’t simply sit back. I’ll be alongside you, helping us understand what is happening and find a way forward together.

Therapy can be challenging at times, but can also be warm, lively, and there’s room for humour too.
